{"id":8824,"date":"2016-10-27T05:30:39","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T05:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/new-studies-find-low-awareness-of-data-protection-among-lithuanian-business-and-public\/"},"modified":"2024-02-16T15:33:30","modified_gmt":"2024-02-16T15:33:30","slug":"new-studies-find-low-awareness-of-data-protection-among-lithuanian-business-and-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/en\/new-studies-find-low-awareness-of-data-protection-among-lithuanian-business-and-public\/","title":{"rendered":"New studies find low awareness of data protection among Lithuanian business and public"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two new research studies, released by the Human Rights Monitoring Institute (HRMI), discuss perceptions of Lithuanian public towards the right to data protection and the readiness of Lithuanian business to implement the EU data protection reform.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Privatumo-paradoksas_EN.pdf\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3145 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/privacyparadox.jpg\" alt=\"privacyparadox\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/privacyparadox.jpg 837w, https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/privacyparadox-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/privacyparadox-768x531.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>&#8220;The Privacy Paradox: the Lithuanian Public&#8217;s Perceptions of Data Protection&#8221;.\u00a0<\/strong>HRMI<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>collaborated with \u201cSpinter research\u201d and carried out a representative survey of more than 1,000 Lithuanian residents in the July of 2016, asking\u00a0about their understanding of the right to data protection, knowledge about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and remedies available in case of the data violations. &#8220;More than 6 out of 10 Lithuanians recognize that they are not aware of their rights and obligations in the data protection field and\u00a0only 2 out of 10 Lithuanian residents have heard about the GDPR&#8221;, the study found.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Privatumo-paradoksas_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(read the study)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The Preparedness of Lithuanian Business to Implement GDPR&#8221;.<\/strong>\u00a0To assess the prevailing attitudes about data protection among business entities, HRMI\u00a0conducted an exploratory survey o<a href=\"http:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Reglamentas_verslui_EN.pdf\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3144\" src=\"https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/GDPR.jpg\" alt=\"gdpr\" width=\"314\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/GDPR.jpg 842w, https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/GDPR-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hrmi.lt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/GDPR-768x545.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 314px) 100vw, 314px\" \/><\/a>f 50 Lithuanian companies asking about their data processing practices and awareness of the upcoming legal changes. According to the study, &#8220;the majority of the respondents were aware of the GDPR, but only 8% claimed knowledge about the new requirements being introduced. In the run-up to the implementation of the GDPR\u00a0in Lithuania, most companies would like more information on the changes brought about by Regulation (98%.) and detailed advice on satisfying its requirements (94%) (Fig. 20).
